BILLFISH: We’re sounding like a broken record, however, that’s a good thing when it comes to our excellent fishing conditions as of late. Especially since tournament season is right upon us. If next week is anything like this one, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament could see some exciting competition, which runs from the 11th to the 15th of October this year. We saw many, many boats catch multiple marlin and billfish almost everyday this week, far too many to include them all in this report. The week started off strong with The Pisces Tracy Ann, captained by Julio Castro catching and releasing two blue marlin, both were estimated at near 200lb; that were caught on caballito live bait and a skipjack. As well as a striped marlin of around 110lb, all for a lone angler from the lone star state about 35 miles out from the Old Lighthouse. The Pisces Knot Workin captained by Tito Olascoaga caught and released two blue marlin estimated at around 150 & 180lb at the 95 Spot, as well as three yellowfin tuna of around 15lb. While the Pisces 28ft Adriana captained by Nicolas Winkler caught and released a sailfish and two blue marlin on the 4th, off the Golden Gate for an angler from Ontario, Canada. The Pisces Flora T captained by Toto Caballero caught and released a black marlin of around 250lb, and a blue marlin of about 200lb on caballito live bait off of Rancho Las Margaritas. While the Pisces Rebecca caught and released three striped marlin all around 100lb at the Golden Gate, also on the 4th. On October 5th we saw a spectacular job from the Pisces Tracy Ann again, landing a blue marlin of 150lb, as well as catching and releasing a sailfish of around 120lb and two striped marlin. All of this for another lone angler from Texas, all fish were landed on caballito live bait at Rancho Las Margaritas. The Pisces Rebecca captained by Rosendo Gomez landed two sailfish and a striped marlin on the 6th. While the Pisces C Rod captained by Abel Ramirez caught and released a black marlin of around 400lb on a green lure, as well as four yellowfin tuna of around 30lb off of San Jaime. To finish of our week on October 7th, the Pisces Cabolero, captained by Hector Ayala caught and released two blue marlin, estimated at 250 & 380lb respectively near the 95 and 11:50 spots. While the Pisces Speedwell captained by Victor Sandez did a spectacular job, catching and releasing two striped marlin, a sailfish and a blue marlin estimated at around 200lb. All fish were took caballito live bait at the 11:50 Spot, for our anglers from Portland, Oregon.

OTHER SPECIES: As far as other species go Pisces boats mostly landed dorado, with some good wahoo catches as well and while not as plentiful as the dorado, there were some very large yellowfin tuna landed this week. The Pisces Rebecca captained by Jose Ramon Alucano, started of the week with a 152lb yellowfin tuna, and caught and released a blue marlin estimated at 230lb near Punta Lobos. Both were landed on pistachio lures for our anglers from Omaha, Nebraska. The Pisces Tracy Ann followed up on the 2nd with a 140lb yellowfin tuna, caught on a tigrillo lure for the Weller’s from Minnesota. Pisces Hot Rod captained by Erick Orozco also came in on the tuna action on the 3rd, with a 150 pounder and a smaller 25lb fish; as well as three dorado of around 15lb out on the Pacific side. The Pisces Bill Collector captained by Julio Gonzalez hasd three very nice tuna on the 6th, weighing in at 48, 115 & 121lb respectively about 35 miles off the Old Lighthouse for some anglers from Louisiana.
